Jesus created a powerful strategy when he made the sharing of meals the central practice in his movement. What we call communion started with meals shared with friends and followers. All kinds of people showed up, and he welcomed them all. He seemed to be unconfined by social conventions eating with tax collectors, gentiles, Pharisees. Women and children were full participants his circle. They ate together all the time
So after he was gone, that habit of breaking bread together continued and connected them to him and to each other.
This Sunday we will share communion. Travelers from the Guatemala Discovery trip will share leadership and story. During that trip, we at 33 consecutive meals together, and that was a big part of the creating of deep community.
So come break bread together on Sunday. Christ will be there. It will be a discovery trip unto itself.
Oh, and afterwards, be sure to come down into the lower hall for an important congregational meeting. Hear the report of the Sustainability Team and help shape our collective future.
Blessings
Will.
