Yes, it is musical week and if you have not yet come and experienced “10 Million Stars and the stories they tell” I highly recommend you do. Given the current state of the world, the musical is a “tonic for the soul.” Don’t miss it.
And this Sunday is the first Sunday in the season of Lent. We begin our journey through the wilderness which ends at the foot of the cross and in the celebration of Easter. Our theme this year is “Lay Your Burdens Down.”
Do you ever feel like you are carrying a lot in your mind, in your heart, in your life? You may well have heard me borrow a phrase from my dear friend Peter Short: “Behind every pair of eyes there is a soul at work.” Our souls carry burdens. Sometimes the soul is burdened with fear of the future. Sometimes the soul is burdened with early childhood messages of unworthiness. Sometimes the soul is lost in a sea of opportunities and doesn’t know which way to turn. Some the soul is grieving, or lonely, or struggling with addiction. Sometimes the soul is burdened with resentment. And sometimes, when we have taken time to attend to the burdens we carry, we find ourselves in a moment when our soul is free, serene, at peace. That is a beautiful, God-blessed moment.
This season of Lent, we will be laying our burdens down. Each week will be another opportunity to lay another one down, or maybe we will spend the whole season laying the same one down, over and over, because that is what our soul longs for. However it unfolds, come on Sunday and you will find a place and a time for you to unburden, and inch your way toward a lighter step, and a freer life.
Blessings, Will
PS. And please do not forget to attend the Congregational meeting, in person or online, after church (10:45 ish) to hear the Feasibility Study Report and vote on its recommendations.
