Not all childhood memories are clear, but I do have vivid memories of how important November 11th was for my Mum. When I was little we would watch the TV, and at 11am the two of us would stand in silence in the living room. The Rouse would finally play and it felt like being released from a trance. I remember seeing images of all the cars pulled over on the side of the road with the drivers standing beside their open doors because it was 11am. To my young self that’s what the whole world did at 11am on November 11th. The whole world was ONE in those two minutes. The whole world wanted war never to happen again. The whole world stood in gratitude for the life changing sacrifices families had made. I thought the whole world was standing together so we’d remember not to ever do that again.
Remembrance Day is on Monday and church is on Sunday. On Sunday worship will be wrapped around the themes of remembrance day, but we won’t mimic a Remembrance Day service. We will have some time together to explore past and future, sacrifice, peace, the journey, our faith and how God fits into it all.
See you Sunday.
