Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people cast off all restraint. Happy is the one who keeps the law.”
Last night the Leadership Board began our meeting by reading together the Vision Statement for Highlands United Church. If you’ve never seen it, I have attached it below. As we began to think about the decisions before us as a community of faith, we looked at the Vision and asked ourselves “what resonates in this moment, what excites, what compels us.”
Happily, everyone around the circle finds this vision to be compelling, exciting and relevant to our life. The vision feels like a Spirit-led call to a beautiful community dynamic of gathering and scattering, coming in and going out, receiving and giving, filling up and emptying out. The vision shows us how God’s Spirit works in the dynamics of our life.
This Sunday is the final Sunday of our 2025 Stewardship Focus, “Seize the day- Together.” Stewardship really is a together thing. Each person matters to the life of the church. Every contribution, regardless how large or small, matters. The Spirit of God is the dynamic energy that is released in the coming and going, giving and receiving, gathering and scattering.
I hope you have signed up to come for lunch. If not, come anyway. Please fill out an online pledge form here, or fill out a physical one on Sunday. Most importantly, come be part of the vision, join the dance, the coming in and going out, the gathering and scattering that is Highlands United Church.
