Oh my goodness – laying down the burden of control in 250 words or less…
There are a lot of unknowns in life, aren’t there?
- When an illness arrives
- When trains go off the track or a plane lands upside down
- When a friend turns their back on us
- When a letter comes in the mail telling us we’re thought of
- When someone in line ahead of us buys our coffee and doughnut
- When we win an award
So many things are out of our control. Think about your yesterday: how much of what happened was in your control? 100%? 12%? Can you pinpoint what you had control over and what you didn’t?
Our natural instinct is to want to control what’s happening to and around us (at least that’s my natural instinct anyway). And sometimes for good reason: like I feel in danger or vulnerable; or I want to prove my knowledge; or I don’t trust the person holding the power).
I wonder why we forget that God is right there, right beside us, kind of screaming through a megaphone at us “Hey, I’m right here. I got this. Lay it on me.”
Or, as Matthew might say “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest … my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11: 28, 30)
For those counting – 250 words – look at that: I’m in control!
See you Sunday,
Julie.
