Minister's Musing March 14th, 2025

No minister’s musing today – I’m too afraid to write about laying down the burden of fear.

Just kidding.

It’s the exact opposite of such a feeling that our faith builds us too. And hopefully that’s what we’ll explore on Sunday.

Psalm 27 is this amazing prayer of trust. Absolute, devout, faithful trust in the Lord. And yet half the psalm is taken up with the evildoers who are devouring the writer’s flesh, armies camped out against them, war rising up – it doesn’t sound like a good situation. Full of fear I’d say.

And kind of sounds like life today. Whether the psalmist meant to be literal or metaphorical we can definitely relate to the environment of hostility, the danger, the foreboding power-over feeling.

And yet, the psalmist speaks with overwhelming confidence and trust in God, and God’s presence on the journey with him.

Faith in God doesn’t mean life won’t be hard. Faith in God means we believe God will equip us to live with courage and hope in the midst of those times of struggle because God is there with us.

Looking at life from that perspective, there is nothing to be scared about in laying down our burden of fear. God’s got this. And God’s got us.

See you Sunday,

Julie.
